GUIDELINES FOR THE DISPOSAL OF USED GAS SPRINGS

What should you pay attention to?
- Gas springs are under high pressure. Therefore, do not open or heat them.
- Gas springs are filled with oil and nitrogen. Dispose of used gas springs via specialized waste collection points. The drained oil (synthetic and HLP) must not enter the environment.
- Do not dispose of gas springs with household waste.
Instructions for disposing of old, used gas springs:
Observing the accident prevention regulations and environmental protection regulations, the following steps must be taken:
- Put on protective clothing and wear safety goggles.
- Clamp the cylinder of the gas spring firmly in a vise.
- Drill a hole in the cylinder with an approx. 3 mm thick drill bit at the point indicated in fig. 1 or 2 so that the gas can escape. Below are the instructions per type of gas spring.
- Standard gas springs: Open the cylinder according to fig. 1, approx. 20 mm from the bottom.
- Lockable gas springs: Operate the valve pin in the piston rod and let the piston rod extend completely. Open the cylinder according to fig. 2, approx. 30 mm from the piston rod side and then approx. 20 mm from the bottom.
- Pump the oil out of the gas spring by pushing the piston rod in and out.
- Catch the oil in a container and hand it in at the collection point for mineral and synthetic oils.
- Gas spring oil is hydraulic oil and can be stored together with engine and transmission oil according to the legal regulations for waste storage.
